n this penetrating and entertaining documentary, the Yes Men impersonate spokesmen of large companies.
Two good-looking men around 40 years old, dressed to the nines. They are left-wing activists, but they impersonate spokesmen of large companies. In that capacity, they succeed in making the news time and again with their hoaxes, such as when they appear on the BBC on behalf of Dow Chemical to announce that the thousands of victims of the gas leak in Bophal, India will finally receive compensation. It is world news for an hour, until the report is denied by Dow Chemical itself. But their hoax was not all for nothing, for they succeeded in showing the world that where there's a will, there's a way. In this entertaining documentary full of fast-paced editing and sharp-witted comment (Michael Moore is never too far away), the Yes Men take aim at the free market of economist Milton Friedman. They show us footage of Reagan and Clinton as well, who both praise the self-regulating quality of the market. The Yes Men contend that unbridled capitalism takes human lives. Finally, Obama passes by with words that might just ring in a new era: "A free market was never meant to be a free license to get whatever you can get, however you can get it."
