Andrzej Wajda

Andrzej Wajda could make better movies while asleep than most other directors could in their top form. The hand of master could easily be seen here, and he wasn't even trying. The setting and costumes are well prepared. Andrzej Seweryn as Rejent and Janusz Gajos as Czesnik deliver very good performances, they alone are reason enough to see the movie. Klara's acting is not bad, but she just doesn't fit the part. Waclaw, on the other hand, has a couple of good moments, but generally he's a disappointment. The biggest mistake is, however, Roman Polanski as Papkin. He is a good director, no doubt, but his acting in this movie is nothing short of disappointment. He has a face of stone and speaks in this irritating quiet chirp that sounds like the squeak of a trapped mouse. No variation of any kind, like he was reading an assignment out loud in the middle of the classroom. Is this a man or a robot, you ask yourself. Maybe these are harsh words, but I still remember "Zemsta" I saw 20 years ago in TV Theater on Monday night, where Papkin was portrayed by Wojciech Pokora. What a performance that was, utterly believable, full of vigor and life. Actors' performance is what makes or breaks a movie, especially one with static action like this one. If Pokora had Papkin's part here this would be a much better movie. Unfortunately, we got Polanski instead安杰依·瓦依达Andrzej Wajda导演的古装喜剧。波兰斯基在其中主演了一个角色
