Its better to wander into this film without knowing too much. The performances are all outstanding but the main credit must be handed to the artist behind it all Michelangelo Antonioni. It would have been quite beautiful to have seen this film when it came out, but even after all these years the themes still resonate as true.

Possibly the most atmospheric film I ever seen, it made a huge impact when I first saw it, and that opinion has never changed. If there is one film that conveys the mystery of life this is it. Antonioni films great monuments and sights in Rome, ending up at the roof of the Cistene chapel in Vaticano. He films it so beautifully that, at an art gallery screening, you almost forget that this is essentially a tourism film.
