　　Kanai Katsu
　　1936年生于神奈川的一个农民家庭。跟随大映东京摄影所的高桥通夫等工作后，成为自由电影导演，并于1968年成立Kanai制片机构。1969年导演处女作《无人列岛》，获尼翁国际电影节大奖。独立制作拍摄了《微笑银河路三部曲》，之后导演了多部电视纪录片和4部电影，包括《梦游》和《时如风逝》。
　　前卫仙术的超级纪录（英文字幕）

　　　视觉艺术家金井勝记录他的密友金井勝丸的每日生活。由于失去生命活力的沮丧，年迈的勝丸训练自己战胜年龄，用自创的“前卫仙术”做出各种神奇表演。这些神奇表演不仅手法娴熟，而且允许近距离观看。

　　1958年生于山形地区Tsuruoka，Tohoku艺术与设计大学任副教授。1977年进入Wako大学人文学科动画图形学院学习视觉艺术。电影和录像作品包括《Fade Out》，《Go-round》，《Zero-TV》和《Sparkling》 (在匈牙利Retina '91 获奖). 已经完成大量创造性的项目，包括独立的FM站和装置。

　　　派朋克乐队和一个左翼激进主义者之间的合作生活实录。作为一个青少年，Karin对她在社会中存在的意义心存疑虑并不断尝试自杀。极右翼民族主义者的学说曾拯救过她。她和她的“同志”Ito一起组织了乐队，开始演奏民族主义者的朋克音乐。左翼电影制作人Tsuchiya，一个坚决的反帝主义者给Karin一个摄像机来拍摄她自己和她的日常生活，并且开始与两人建立一种特殊的三角关系。片中Karin旅行到北朝鲜，见到见到30年前劫机逃离日本的前红色旅的恐怖主义者。

　　This piece depicts many kinds of communication and emotional exchange that happen through hands. Main focuses are three episodes related to hands, including hands applying acupressure, hands with bitten fingertips, and hands that have taken care of the elderly for many years.
　　Lunch Box

　　After persistent searching, the filmmakers found a fixed point for filming and observation in a dining booth of a family restaurant. We hear conversations from the various restaurant booths as the camera moves. They are all different. The work presents real-life scenes from a public diner, a place that is usually seen as very artificial and uniform.
　　Knock

　　The work is about men punching each other on the streets and in parks. These men want to express themselves through a physical experience--a reality with the pain of the fist--just to confirm they are truly living. As we see how serious they get as the filming continues, we are drawn into the realistic feeling of attending a live match.

　　The piece is set in a movie theater soon to be closed, and a jazz cafe slated for destruction due to relocation. The filmmakers's sympathies seep through their portrayal of a movie projectionist whose work was inherited from his father and a　music-loving cafe owner struggling with a side job.

　　This group of young people ventured to Iraq and Korea to make this film, despite receiving not a single yen from any funding sources. What kind of world did they see? What did they discover in themselves? Everything is narrated in the images.

　　There is an interesting old lady who shops at a convenience store everyday. Her acute antenna for the chic and the latest info astounds even the store clerks. Hoping to ask her to be in their film, the filmmakers hand her a letter. But she is unexpectedly resistant . . .
　　Late Summer Dance

　　Focusing on the traditional summertime obon dance in the village where grandma and grandpa live, Late Summer Dance juxtaposes folklore and stories told by villagers and shows the limitless charm of the dance passed from generation to generation in the village.

　　Kanai Katsu
　　Born in Kanagawa Prefecture to a farming family in 1936. After working under Takahashi Michio and others at the Daiei Tokyo film studio, became a freelance film director and established Kanai Productions in 1968. In 1969 premiered his directorial debut, Deserted Island, which was awarded the grand prize at the Nyon International Film Festival. Independently produced and screened Smiling Milky Way Trilogy. Since then, has directed television documentary programs and made four films, including Dream Runs and Time Blows Like the Wind.
　　Super Documentary Avant-Garde Magic

　　Visual artist Kanai Katsu documents the everyday life of his alter ego, Kanai Katsumaru. Depressed by his loss of vitality, the elderly Katsumaru trains himself to conquer youth and performs various miracles using homemade "avant-garde magic." These miracles are not just sleight of hand, so be sure to watch closely.

　　Born in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture in 1958. Associate professor at Tohoku University of Art & Design. In 1977, entered the Department of Humanities, Wako University and studied visual art at the Image Forum Institute of the Moving Image. Film and video productions include Fade Out, Go-round, Zero-TV, and Sparkling (prize winner at Retina '91 in Hungary). Has been involved with numerous creative projects, including independent FM stations and installations.
　　Kaiseki Cuisine
　　2002 / Color / Video / 16 min / Co-dir: Sakurai Atsushi
　　This collaboration with Kyoto-based visual artist Sakurai Atsushi focuses on "food." Sakurai obsessively examines the vast quantity of food additives that pass through our bodies everyday, and Kato dissects the richness and poverty of the bento box lunches sold at convenience stores.

　　Tsuchiya Yutaka
　　Born in 1966. Began professional work in 1990. Has independently distributed the uncopyrighted video Without Television since 1994. In 1998 began Video Act!, a project distributing independent activist video works, and focuses on expanding a network of media activists. Main works include What Do You Think about the War Responsibility of Emperor Hirohito? , Ryoko 21 Years Old, and The New God.
　　The New God

　　A real-life collaboration between a nationalist punk band and a leftwing activist. As a teenager, Karin had problems finding a meaning to her existence in society and repeatedly attempted suicide. It was the philosophy of the ultra right-wing nationalists that saved her. She and her ÒcomradeÓ Ito put together a band and started playing nationalist punk music. Left-wing filmmaker Tsuchiya, an unbending anti-imperialist, decides to give Karin a video camera to shoot herself and her daily life, and starts up a peculiar three-way relationship with the couple. Camera on board, Karin travels to North Korea and meets former Red Army terrorists who fled from Japan aboard a hijacked plane thirty years ago.

　　This film carefully documents how a girl who stopped going to school recovers her relationship with society through theater performance. Her drama club colleagues have similar problems. At the same time, this work documents a process of exploration and confirmation by the director.

　　The Japanese filmmaker started making this film after a German friend asked him about the Nanking Massacre by the Japanese imperial army. What did these youth of the West and East discover as they delved deeply into Japan, China and Germany? This work confronts questions of war, invasion and history education.

　　"The only thing my first girlfriend could cook was curry rice," says the filmmaker at the start of the film. Three nights of eating curry with women living in Tokyo might not seem very special, but this work eloquently depicts lives within a small community in the city. The piece is filled with a sense of longing. By Matsue Tetsuaki, whose 1999 film Annyong-Kimchi was acclaimed worldwide.

　　This piece explores the suburban "new towns" that arose around the country during Japan's high economic growth period in the 1960-70s. Born and raised in just such a place, the director filmed his hometown and his family over several years.

　　A director wandering through life begins filming a friend in a similar situation. When another friend joins in, their relationship starts to collapse. 　　The director only chose to live in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture because of the cheap rent and train fare to Tokyo. But as he explores the town with his camera, he finds many fascinating personalities. Most impressive, he successfully turns his banal everyday life into a humorous entertainment piece.

　　The film reveals the director's love/hate relationship with her father, and the emotional conflicts in a complex and tragic family environment. In an attempt to extricate herself from turmoil, she turns to the camera. Through talking by cell phone, she reveals her innermost emotions, reviving herself through the process.
