The First Asian Festival of 1stFilms will be held in Singapore from 23rd November to the 30th of November 2005. The Festival Directorate invites films from first-time filmmakers of Asian origin in the following categories: - Best Film (Producer) - Best Director - Best Cinematographer - Best Female Actor - Best Male Actor - Best Writer - Best Documentary - Best Director of Documentary Asian origin being defined as being of Asian descent (i.e. at least one parent being native to one of the following countries): Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, East Timor, Egypt, Georgia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen. FILMS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE: 1. Films must have been produced between January 1st, 2004 and August 30th, 2005. 2. Films can be only be submitted by first time film-makers of Asian origin* in the categories mentioned above. 3. Films should not have been commercially released or telecast outside their country of origin. 4. Films should not have been exhibited on the Internet. 5. Feature films should be produced in 16mm, 35mm or 70mm format. 6. Feature Films should have a minimum running time of 80minutes. 7. Documentaries should have been produced in digital, digital Beta, 16mm or 35mm. 8. All films must be submitted in their original language with English subtitles. 9. The Directorate must receive entries by 1700 hours on the 15th of September 2005. 10. Entry forms must be completed and submitted online at the Official Festival website. Two printed copies of the completed entry form must accompany the tapes/DVDs. 11. 5 non-returnable copies of each film must be sent in either DVD or VHS PAL format. 12. Detailed documentation must accompany each entry, including: a) An official letter of consent from the producer of the film authorizing entry to the competition, b) A full list of artistic and technical credits, c) Two photographs of the person/s entering the competition d) A synopsis written in English in not more than 500 words. e) Country of production. 13. Postal cost of tapes will be borne by the submitting artist. 14. There is no entry fee required for submission of feature films and documentaries 15. In the event that films are selected for screening at the Festival, all costs of shipping prints, including customs, insurance and return shipping are the responsibility of the producer. 16. No film maybe withdrawn once it has entered the selection process. ASIAN FESTIVAL OF 1st FILMS ELIGIBILITY & CRITERIA PROCESS 1. Selection will take place across seven (7) regions* worldwide as determined by the Festival Directorate. 2. The selection committee will consist of eminent personalities from the world of film as appointed by the Directorate. 3. Committee will shortlist up to one film in each of the following categories: a. Best Film (Producer) b. Best Director c. Best Cinematographer d. Best Female Actor e. Best Male Actor f. Best Writer g. Best Documentary h. Best Director of Documentary 4. Up to 56 films (comprising up to 42 feature films and 14 documentaries) thus selected will be screened at the Asian Festival of 1st Films to be held in Singapore from 23rd November to 30th of November 2005. 5. Of these 24 Feature Films & 8 Documentaries will be nominated for the competition section of the Festival. There will be up to four nominations in each award category. 6. An international jury composed of eminent film personalities, appointed by the Festival Directorate, will determine the winners in each of the defined categories. 7. Decisions of the jury will be full and final. 8. Awards will be announced at a ceremony to be held on 30th November 2005 in Singapore to be telecast across the region.
