  實驗電影究竟應該如何界定?
  
  實驗電影究竟應該如何界定?這是許多人問過我的一個問題,在我看來,實驗電影並不是一種特定的形式類型,實驗片即不是膠片上的化學試驗,也不是自娛自樂式的晦澀個人表達,“實驗”只是一種精神,是一種敢於跨出附加著安全感的“專業領域”的探索精神,它的本質是對既有的影像、敘事傳統的挑戰和創新,所以,實驗片無法界定也不應該去界定,因為它本來游離於分界線的邊緣,“越界”才是當代實驗電影的關鍵詞。
  這屆影展的實驗單元就是這樣一些越界作品的集合;攝影家海波的作品《太平川》,影像素材來源於他在東北農村拍攝照片之余留下的“現場紀錄”,這些流動影像帶著靜態影像的形式感和距離感,不像常見的攝像機鏡頭那樣熱衷於介入生活,而只是用照相機鏡頭的方式創造了一種靜態的、自然的目光。另外一件作品是由來自澳洲的音樂家David Sudmails和影像藝術家Daynor Missingham合作的Die Eigenheit,影像帶有強烈的與聲音互動的節奏感,幾乎可以稱之為一段視覺化的音樂。
  兩部來自台灣的作品《帶雲水》(黃信堯)和《待之以名的事物》(黃亞歷),都具有令人窒息的優美畫面和難以名狀的憂傷情緒;其中《帶雲水》是一部表現出強烈實驗精神的紀錄片,獨特的亦真亦幻亦實亦虛的敘事風格混淆了紀實和個人表達之間的界限。
  我自己的作品《嘉年華》是一部由紀錄、原有素材、擺拍組成的影像日記,它記錄了過往的一些社會事件,並對這些事件做出個人的反饋和主觀臆想。《不成熟的思想》是影像藝術家杜昉對逐格動畫製作的一次嘗試,動畫與影像之間製作流程的彼此介入是這部影片的看點。
  這些作品的都充滿了探索的態度和走出既定模式的願望,以及對偶然性和不確定的迷戀,它們所能做的就是不安分的出軌,然後坐下看看到底會發生些甚麼……

  How can we define experimental film? It's a common question asking by many people. In my opinion, experimental work is not a specific style, neither chemical test on filmstrip nor obscure personal expression. Experiment is a simple spirit has the courage to stride across your professional field attached with sense of security. Essentially, experimental works is a challenge and recreation towards all of those existed traditions of moving image and narrative. Therefore, experimental film can't be defined; also we should give up the attempt trying to define it. Due to experimental works walk on the edge of many boundaries, "crossover" is suppose to be the keyword of contemporary experimental film making.
  The experimental section of BIFF is a collection of "cross-over" works; Taiping Plain is an experimental work made by a photographer, Hai Bo, The footage are came from a working documentation of taking photos in a small village of Dongbei, This piece of moving image work has the quality and perception of still image work. Unlike most of documentation camcorder will do, it doesn't eager to interfere the process of real life. Hai Bo is simply create a "natural eye" in a still-camera way. Another excellent work is came from cooperation of two Australian artist, Sound artist, David Sudmails and video artist Daynor Missingham, Through Die Eigenheit,audience can see how video interact with sound, And we can almost call it visualize music.
  Dai-Shui-Yun and The Unnamed from two Taiwan artists Huang Xinyao and Huang Yali, They both have unbelievable beautiful picture and sentimental emotion. Specially, Dai-Shui-Yun is a documentary film come with bold experimental spirit, the unique narrative has blend the boundary of documentary and personal expression.
  My own work carnival is an personal documentation consist of live-documentary and found footage, it record some of recent historical events, and reflected my personal response at the same time. Another experimental animation work immature thinking is from video artist Du Fang, its very delight to see the overlapping of different process from animation and film.
  This collection of experimental works is full of explorative spirit and desire of out of the boundary. These works also fill up with fancy of occasionality and uncertainness, the common feature they all have is restlessly betray, then we will sit back and see what will happen next afterwards.
