影片概述: Two elderly women bear the consequences of a crime involving their respective grandsons—one is the victim, the other is the suspect. Both weak and poor, they laboriously solicit money in the midst of a storm—one for the victim’s burial, the other for the suspect’s bail bond. Lola Sepa, together with her 8-year-old grandson, lights a candle on the spot beside a bridge where an elder grandson was killed by a cell phone snatcher the night before. Then she goes to collect money for the burial and court hearing. Lola Puring painstakingly raises funds for the temporary release of her grandson, the assailant, who refuses to languish in jail. Lola Sepa refuses the P30,000 offered by Lola Puring. But she eventually relents and accepts the amicable settlement, realizing her grandson is not coming back to life. Her family demands for a bigger price—P50,000. As a last recourse, Lola Puring decides to pawn the ancestral house to a neighborhood usurer. Eventually, the payment is made and life goes on for the two grandmothers and despite their old age, they try to cope and survive life’s harsher realities for the elderly.
导演阐述: Our humanity being weighed—and balanced—on the scales of justice. The crime serves to test the strengths and frailties of the two women. One proves weak, the other strong. This is so to keep the balance of humanity, as in the balance of nature, where the fittest survives and one’s worth depends on his status in life.
